Title: La Espera

Concept: This piece is a homage to the women of Armero-Colombia who after 30 years of the tragedy caused by a volcanic eruption, keep looking for their lost children and for support of the government which up to now haven’t shown interest in their cause.

Bio: Bibiana Cervantes was born in Armero-Tolima Colombia in 1970. She has been living in Weston for over 15 years. Photographer, painter, cinema, Art history and Latin American literature.
She graduated in Social Communications and Journalism in the University de la Sabana, Colombia adding a master’s degree in Investigative Journalism at FIU, Miami. She has been dedicated to her art as a profession for the last 10 years exhibiting in private galleries and universities. Her art is basically abstract in nature using the mixed media technique incorporating collage with photographs and letters from her grandparents in the 40’s. The theme of memories is prevalent in her art pieces. At this time the theme of Armero has been transcending in her work as she is paying tribute to her native place and the survivors of such terrible tragedy.

What does it mean for you to participate in “Mirada de Mujer Miami”?

I feel gratitude towards life for giving me the chance to connect with this group of Mirada de Mujer because I belief that united we are strong and that our teamwork enriches our creative work establishing solid communication bridges with the spectator.

Concepto: Esta obra es un homenaje a las mujeres de Armero, Colombia, quienes, después de 30 años de la tragedia causada por la erupción de un volcán, siguen buscando a sus hijos y buscando el apoyo de un gobierno que, hasta la fecha, se ha mostrado desinteresado por esta causa.

Biografía:
Bibiana Cervantes nació en Armero-Tolima, Colombia, en 1970. Vive en Weston, Florida, desde hace más de 15 años. Sus pasiones son la fotografía, la pintura, el cine, la historia del Arte y la literatura latinoamericana.
Se graduó en comunicación social y periodismo en la Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia, y obtuvo un Master en periodismo investigativo en la Universidad FIU, Miami.
Desde hace 10 años se dedica a pintar profesionalmente y a exponer en galerías privadas y universidades.
Su arte es principalmente abstracto con empleo de técnicas mixtas en las cuales incorpora el collage con la fotografía y las cartas que se escribieron sus abuelos en los años 40. El tema de la memoria y del recuerdo son una constante en su trabajo artístico.
Actualmente el tema de Armero se ha vuelto trascendente en su obra que pretende, con la fotografía y la pintura, rendirle un homenaje póstumo a su tierra natal y a los sobrevivientes de tan terrible tragedia.

¿Qué significa participar en Mirada de Mujer Miami?
​
“Me siento muy agradecida con la vida por haberme conectado con el grupo de Miradas de Mujer porque considero que la unión hace la fuerza y que el trabajo en equipo enriquece el trabajo creativo y establece puentes mas sólidos de comunicación con el espectador”.
